Clients
On the civil front, currently Mr. Quade is representing the artists in a Federal lawsuit after the willful destruction of an internationally recognized artwork known as La Contessa. La Contessa was a highly realistic, mobile, interactive replica of a 16th century Spanish galleon and was the culmination of the work of over 100 artists, designers and fabricators. La Contessa was best known since 2002 for its repeated appearances at the Burning Man festival, but was also recognized as a significant work of art in several media outlets including the San Francisco Bay Guardian; Discovery Channel's "Monster Garage"; Rolling Stone magazine; the Reno News and Review; the Boise Weekly; ProE magazine and in several books regarding the Burning Man event. The Federal lawsuit is based upon "The Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990", 17 U.S.C. Sec. 106A, et. seq.
On the criminal defense front Mr. Quade continues to defend individual rights and our Constitution. Recently he was involved in the "El Primo" drug conspiracy prosecution that involved a two-year investigation lead by the Drug Enforcement Agency. His client obtained a very favorable resolution to the serious charges he was facing, namely Level III Trafficking.
CaseWins
In the criminal arena Mr. Quade led a team to two "Not Guilty" verdicts in the case of State v. Ibarra, Case No. CR00-2304. The case presented a double-homicide, death penalty trial in the Second Judicial District Court, Washoe County, Nevada which lasted over a month. The jury deliberated over four days before returning with the acquittals.
Mr. Quade was also able to help avoid the death penalty in State v. Peck, Case No. CR01-1975. We say help because Mr. Quade led a team which included other attorneys, investigators, three leading experts and a staff who performed beyond any reasonable expectations. The case involved the regrettable death of Officer John Bohach and was the only known case in Nevada history of a police officer shooting that did not result in a death penalty verdict. Notwithstanding the opinions surrounding this case, and there are many heartfelt, noone questioned the professionalism and expertise exhibited by Mr. Quade in his defense of Larry Peck.
In the civil arena Mr. Quade has settled numerous personal injury and professional malpractice claims with an aggregate value of well over a million dollars.
